Dublin Surprises

Yesterday I hopped onto a Route 79 bus in London in the morning - and ended up in Dublin, Ireland in the evening.

So - reporting from Dublin - this morning - as the low sun shone brightly in the sky (whilst some people were staring at Venus transiting the Sun) I decided to take a stroll down a street with a canal that runs right through the middle of it. Dublin is full of fascinating surprises like this.

Canal running through the middle of a street in Dublin.

And in Dublin - surprises also seem to come in two’s !

A metal sculpture of a man sitting on a bench right beside the same canal.

(Apologies for not having responded to recent comments - am struggling to find much time right now - will respond soon!)

Sure looks like a nice city.
So how have you been doing.
And how did you land up in Ireland?

Wahe guru-ji ka khalsa, wahe guru-ji ki fateh.

Jag: Just wanted to know what the situation is in London, 20 years post Operation Bluestar. I recently recv’d, in a round-about manner, a multimedia CD from England that was pro-Khalistan. The warning label on it stated not to play the CD in pubs, meeting places, etc. Should say not…it is bloody inflammatory!

Of course, my own opinion on Bluestar is considered by some to be inflammatory.

Hi..Amazing blog..I’ve been missing something all this while, reading crappy blogs…this one’s a real jewel.
Came from Priyanka’s blog, where ur analysis was impressive.
Can u do something about the “Entries” on the RHS? kinda looks cluttered.
Keep writing..I’ll need a good few days to read most of ur posts anyway.

Sat: I’m doing just fine. Yes - having spent a couple of days there - I would have to say that it is a nice city. And I promise myself I will go back again to spend a little more time there. I ended up there on work business - when I finished work on Monday - I simply popped over to Heathrow Airport and 2 hours later (flight time was 50 minutes) I was in Dublin !

Anon: Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
I know little about the situation in London re Bluestar - but I do know that there was a demonstration march in Central London on that anniversary day in commemoration of the Golden Temple attack. It didn’t seem to get much news coverage - and this is probably because there were’nt that many people marching. Regarding the CD: well it saddens me somewhat that such an event (regardless of which side the sentiment is on) contains such inflammatory material. Sikhs - like most people in the world are peace-loving peoples - but like all communities and faiths - there are some elements that express their opinions in a way that may seem inflammatory to others. I guess that everybody is entitled to their own opinions - and voicing them. This is one of the best things about the “free” world - and one of the things that defines the very essence of freedom. Personally - I was too young when to form an opinion at the time of the Bluestar event - but when I look back on the history of the events - all I can think to myself is how sad and disappointing it all was. Disappointing that people from all sides could not come to some form of agreement without resorting to violence and violation of respect for things of spiritual significance. But - as they say - time is a great healer - and there are greater things in today’s world to worry about. Life is something to be valued. Sat Sri Akal.

Fi: Thanks! I have been to Dublin (and other parts of Ireland) before a few times - and the more times I visit - the more I appreciate how special Ireland is - and especially how special Irish peoples are.

Cyberian: many thanks for your too kind comments! Regarding the “entries” column on the right hand side - you are absolutely right to be critical of that - I have never been happy with it myself - but I haven’t got round to figuring out how to improve upon it yet! But I will get my thinking cap on! Many thanks again! Oh - and by the way - glad you liked the Thai hotpot recipe - hope you get to try it sometime - it really is a pleasure to cook!

Simone: Hope you are well. And sure do hope that you get to visit Dublin too - it is well worth spending a couple of days - it’s really not too difficult to get to from London either! Cheers!

Dublin? Full of fascinating surprises? I must get out more… that bench is about 5 minutes away from my office.

Hi Alan - if that bench is only five mins from your office - then I consider you to be extremely lucky! What a great place to work in - the whole place is like big mix-up of Camden Town, Covent Garden, Islington and the West End. Only you can walk it everywhere without killing your legs.
