Starvin' Marvin's
Meanwhile - back in London. A couple of postings back it was all about "Art Deco" architecture and my favourite London urban highway (the A40) - this time it's a roadside cafe (of the "greasy spoon" type perhaps?) in a 1950s American diner "silver-bullet" style - strangely enough - in Perivale - and practically right opposite the Hoover Building. For years I have driven past Starvin' Marvin's whilst cruisin' the 'burbs on the A40 Westbound - and I have always wondered what it's like inside - and have always made a mental note to stop and find out next time - but I always never have. It sure does look odd though.|

Someone must have shipped that thing over from Georgia where they are a dime a dozen and most commonly referred to as a "greasy spoon" It is odd to see one in the Uk though, maybe it was telported by grits loving aliens.

Beware if you do try it, the portions are huge.
A nice place to have a bite to eat to recover from the "Ikea experience".

Fritz: well according to their website it was indeed transported over to UK from USA! Amazing.
Strop: thanks for the tip - and I can fully understand it being one of thos eplaces to recover from IKEA!

I just came across this randomly. Yes it is true the diner (or should i say diner's) were shipped from the states. There used to be several across the country, we had 3 in Manchester. The buildings were shipped in two halves then pieced back together. If anybody knows of anymore left in the country i'd love to know. I used to love this place but know they're hard to come by

Hi Elliot - thank you for your comment. Yes - I read that Starvin Marvin's first appeared in Manchester here in UK - and you have confirmed that they were indeed shipped over here in two parts. I am now even more determined to go visit the one here in West London. Cheers!

I've used it in the post-IKEA exhaustion as well. Lovely real milkshakes and a few vegetarian options (more than at a real greasy spoon anyway!).
You may have seen the inside of it unknowingly - it was used for the SKY One logo a couple of years back. The one with a girl stirring a milkshake with a straw.
