Journal Spam

Have been getting a lot of comment-spam for old entries in this journal recently. I tried to install Jay Allen's MT Blacklist but only succeeded in trashing my configuration - and some of the comments database too - which I've carefully spent the last two hours attempting to restore from local backup. Still some parts of the archive missing. Leaving you with a random picture for now.
Defaced "CCTV in Operation" - Wembley High Road.
The above picture is from a series taken as part of my "CCTV is everywhere in London" showcase - which if you missed the first time - you can see by clicking here.

Comments

I am sorry if I ended up putting multiple comments . It just happens that I comment and after pressing the post button, I realise that I hve forgotton something. I stop the browser and then add that and post again. That seems to result in the duplication of posts.

Hi Sat - no problems re your accidental duplicate comments - I can usually deal with those quite easily. It's when some viagra spammer leaves "spamvert" URL in an several old archived entries that I have a problem. Hence trying to install MT Blacklist.

I had a problem with a comment spammer this week too. They posted 5 comments advertising online casinos. MT throttled them so they didn't post more.

I installed MT Blacklist straight afterwards, but seem to have had mroe success than you. I had issues because the Perl Storage module wasn't installed on my machine, and the documented work around involved loads of fiddling around. So I ignored the documented instructions and just installed the missing module (why they don't suggest that, I have no idea!).

Got it installed within 30 minutes of getting spammed, which wasn't bad. I'd cleaned out the spam manually, so didn't need the auto-cleanse function in MT-Blacklist.

You definitely had better luck than me - or perhaps it wan't luck but incompetence. I guess the instructions for workaround are assuming that most people don't have the ability to load new perl mods on their hosts perl installation?
