Indobrit & Smoke

Today I discovered two fascinating new magazines - one called Indobrit - aimed at young British Asians - and the other called Smoke - a London Peculiar (from Annie Mole's blog - originally thru Diamond Geezer's blog) which is aimed at Lodon-o-philes. Both have particularly unique qualities - in both style and coverage - and I am eagerly looking forward to getting them in the post soon!

well have to say, i've never seent aht mag around should i be blushing?

Posted by: Jaina at July 24, 2003 08:36 PM

No need for blushing - it's very new - only a couple of editions published so far. (It's published quarterly.) I'm surprised I never picked up on it myself until today. But it sure does look interesting. It's in A5 format (as opposed to A4) - so this in itself makes it's slightly off-beat. I have ordered the back issues - and I've also subscribed for future ones. The folks there are very responsive - the editor (Farah Damji) appears to be onto something big here. Check out the following article: http://www1.britishcouncil.org/india/india-connecting/india-connecting-west/india-connecting-west-august-2002/india-connecting-west-apr03-launch-of-indobrit.htm - it seems that this mag has some serious quality about it. I can't wait to read it! Spread the word!

Hi Shobha - thanks for visiting!

The comments in your blog entry were sort of infectious - and I felt that a bit of "viral networking" would contribute to the ego boost you mentioned.

Hey - hope the "complex" doesn't put you off too much! It's sort of funny you say that because I sort of go to great efforts to keep my journal (not blog) as un-complex as possible! And truth be known - I was taken by "I, Me & Media" - what a great title!

sweet of you to plug the mag. I love blogging, the face of new media? Looks like the future of news and networking.

Hey - thanks for commenting.

'tis the future indeed ...

Idea: How about all your magazine subscribers get exclusive access to an online version of the mag - that way you can supplement the content with interaction - e.g. editors/writers blogs, subscriber opinions, feedback etc. - get some sort of community going, subscriber reviews of issues/topics - etc. etc. On the costs side you prob only need to employ a reasonably competent webmaster - or outsource this to a web shop.

You see - in my view - the print version of the medium is just a convenient "bearer" for the content when you can't be online - e.g. on the bus - or sitting on the sofa at your inlaws. And even then - with wireless these will become practical in a few years anyway ...
